The Cleveland/Akron area is another large city in Ohio with many hotels and banquet facilities. Stunning architecture, historic presence and jaw-dropping backdrops are common in this area. Located in the middle of the state you will find Columbus, the capital and largest city in Ohio. It is the third largest metropolitan area (following Cincinnati and Cleveland). Toledo is the fourth most populated city in Ohio. It is located on the western end of Lake Erie and borders Michigan. Toledo has many spectacular outdoor and indoor venues to offer. Popular places for weddings in Toledo include museums, mansions, conference centers and parks.
Wedding Venue Prices in Ohio
With the seasons dominating the outdoor choices for a wedding reception, you will find that January through March is the off-peak season for weddings in Ohio. December is still a popular time with many couples dreaming of a holiday wedding, so beware of this month, as it may be difficult to find a venue. Hotels tend to be on the more expensive side, along with large banquet facilities and conference centers. Historical buildings and museums are generally mid-priced, while parks and countryside venues are the most affordable of the bunch.
Be sure to check out reviews and testimonials for all the vendors you may consider hiring. If they are a reputable company, they will most certainly carry insurance, which many venues require. If you decide to hire a wedding coordinator, expect to pay 10-15% of your wedding budget. If you are resourceful enough to do most of the planning, check out something called “Day Of” Services, where you have a coordinator to help manage just the day of your wedding. This won’t break your wallet and still give you the support you may need should you choose a venue that is not all-inclusive, such as a catering hall or a hotel.
The current state sales tax in Ohio is 5.75%. However, depending on local municipalities, the total tax rate can be as high as 8.75%. Depending on where the venue and/or vendors are located, each city may differ from the other. It is important to know what county you are looking for. The same holds true for cost of marriage licenses, it varies by county, not by city.
Remember, when bookings a venue they will typically add on the service charge, 15%-18% and sales tax. Service charges are not to be taxed, be sure to check your bill.
Information and Resources for Weddings in Ohio
If you are not a resident of Ohio, you will need to obtain your license from the county where you are getting married. If you are a resident you must apply in the county where one of you resides. The fee for the license will vary from county to county, ranging from $45 - $75. Payment is required at the time of application. If the applicant is under 18 the must get the consent of their parents/guardians.
You will need to provide a driver’s license or another valid form of photo identification. You must know your Social Security number, but do not need to have the actual card on you. Both parties must complete the application.
