If you take advantage of Georgia’s many rustic venues—farms, barns, parks, and historic homes, you can easily find a venue with costs ranging between $3,000 and $8,000. Country clubs can usually be found in the next tier up, starting at around $5,000. Hotels in metropolitan areas, like Atlanta, are pricier options for wedding venues.
Make sure you consider sales tax when deciding on your wedding budget. Georgia sales tax is 4%, but increases depending on the municipality. This brings Atlanta to 8%, Savannah to 7%, and other cities in the state will vary, but none have sales tax higher than 8%. Also remember to add between 15% and 20% for gratuities and 9% to 20% for service fees.
To obtain a marriage license, both parties will need to present a driver's license, passport or birth certificate. The fee is up to $67 depending on the county. The fee can be waived if the couple takes a 6-hour per-marital counseling course, which can be found through churches, synagogues, and various non-religious institutions.
