How to Save on Your Reception Dinner Menu
There’s a quote floating around saying, “a party without cake is just a meeting.” But, cake- and arguably all the other delicious trimmings for weddings- are expensive. But they don’t always have to be so. Here are four ways to save money on your reception- while keeping it delicious!
1. Plan early
It’s hard to plan a wedding. But the earlier you prep, the more time you give yourself to shop around for vendors. This removes stress of booking a caterer because you didn’t have time to do the research.
2. Plan for off-season
This doesn’t mean way off-season, but you can save a lot of money by booking just before or just after “high” wedding season. But if you’re dying for a spring or summer wedding, try for any day that isn’t Saturday- there are big savings there, too.
Running a dinner service gets costly, but if you do everything buffet-style, this can save a lot of money. Pick an appetizer and main dish, lay out the fixings and let your guests get creative. From cookie bars to baked-potato bars, it’s a great way to incorporate fun and creativity into your reception.
4. Skip the bar
If you’re an alcohol aficionado but don’t want to pay out for an open bar- but don’t want a cash bar- there are a couple ways around this. Have a glass (or two) served to your guests at their seats. Or, get creative and do a seltzer bar. Save the champagne for you and your spouse at the toast, but let your guests mix their own (non-alcoholic) drinks. Seltzer is inexpensive, and syrups and mix-ins don’t have to cost a lot.
