Nestled in the scenic Turtle Mountains on the shores of Lake Metigoshe, Lake Metigoshe State Park was constructed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s and is one of the most popular year-round vacation spots in North Dakota. The Chippewa called the lake "Metigoshe Washegum," or "clear water lake surrounded by oaks." Today, the lake is noted for its northern pike, walleye and perch. The rolling hills, aspen forests and small lakes attract nature and photography lovers to the area to capture the breathtaking sights. Do the same and make this lovely nature space the background for your wedding festivities. Lake Metigoshe State Park features three year-round family cabins, one year-round primitive cabin, 1 year-round yurt, group dormitories and kitchen/dining hall. The three year-round, fully-furnished cabins (Loon, White Pelican and Slemmen Lodge) are tucked in the woods near Lake McDonald in the northern part of the park. Each is equipped with a kitchen, wheelchair accessible bathroom with shower, and gas fireplace. For more intimate weddings, any of the cabins or large buildings can serve as casual places for a reception or kitchen areas for serving food.
