Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House Overview
One of the most magnificent sites in the Hawaiian Islands is that on which Hale Hōʻikeʻike stands. Located in Historic Wailuku, at the mouth of Iao Valley made sacred by the burial of the bones of the great Hawaiian navigators and of the highest chiefs of Maui. Iao was the site in 1795 of the costly defense of the island against the invading forces of Kamehameha I and his army. These grounds shielded the entrance to Iao Valley and served as the King Kahekili’s royal residence and heiau. Today, Hale Hōʻikeʻike is the oldest History Museum in Maui County and is managed by the Maui Historical Society. Set against the backdrop of the oldest western-style houses still standing on Maui; amid the lush Hawaiian Plumeria and other tropical plants in our botanical gardens; Hale Hōʻikeʻike can host ceremonies and receptions of up to 100 friends, family, and loved ones.Venue Notes
