Former college football star Tim Tebow married 2017 Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters on Jan. 20, 2020, and Nel-Peters’ stunning dresses (yes, plural!) weren’t the only things that had the wedding industry buzzing.

The couple tied the knot at sunset in Nel-Peters’ native South Africa, and the venue made for a breathtaking event.

“It was very emotional,” Urban Meyer, Tebow’s former college coach, told People. “To watch the two of them begin their life together was just beautiful. It was the perfect day.”

Where did Tim Tebow get married?

Tebow and Nel-Peters got married at La Paris Estate in Franschhoek, South Africa, about an hour outside of Cape Town. Here are five facts you need to know about the venue:

  1. The venue was established in 1699 and, according to its website, has been the home to various families and activities over the years, and has been responsible for “many happy memories.”

  2. The venue has five locations to host wedding festivities, ranging from the newly-renovated Lyceum, which can hold approximately 400 guests, and the Garden Room, which holds around 60.

  3. The venue prides itself on its wide-ranging atmosphere. A section of the wedding offerings package reads: “The breath-taking mountains, perfectly manicured lawns, vibrant gardens and magnificent Oak trees provide a dream like environment for you and your partner to pledge your devotion to one another.”

  4. The estate also offers hotel and dining options, and it underwent a complete refurbishment in 2019.

  5. The estate hosts various events other than weddings, including yoga classes, outdoor movie screenings and concerts.

Tebow’s cake was keto-friendly

One thing that had to be included in the big day, according to People? A keto-friendly groom’s cake.

“We chose a cheesecake,” Nel-Peters told the publication. “That way, Tim can stick to his diet.”

The former Heisman Trophy winner told The Rachael Ray Show last year that he has been following the keto diet since 2012, “really before most people knew about (it).”

Kudos to Tebow for not having a cheat day — even for his wedding!

The attire was incredible

According to People, Nel-Peters’ first dress was a custom-made gown from David’s Bridal, accented by diamond and pearl earrings from Marion Rehwinkel Jewelery.

Nel-Peters told the magazine that she looked at 50-or-so dresses before making ultimately her decision.

“I was all over Pinterest,” she said. “I wanted to find something sleek and elegant and timeless.”

The menu featured a lot of variety

According to People, the reception menu featured food from both America and South Africa, and included steak, mussels, cheeses, and pasta. Tebow and Nel-Peters opted to go with their their favorite salad, too, which was made up of baby spinach, bacon, berries, cucumbers, vinegar, and olive oil.

“It’s such a simple salad,” Nel-Peters said, “but we eat it all the time and it’s delicious. So we wanted it to be part of the wedding.”
